Magical Beasts

An umbrella term for animals with special abilities, ranging from more intelligent than humans to no different from beasts; they are relatively weak to mind-control attacks.
- Sleipnir: eight-legged, surpassing horses in strength, stamina, and speed, worth more than five warhorses; white ones occur only once in several hundred.
- Hippogriff: the offspring of a griffin and a mare, easier to tame than griffins; the mount of the Royal Air Guard, the Emperor's personal guard.
- Gigant Basilisk: difficulty 83 (Web "Academy-8"), with a petrifying gaze and deadly venom, skin rivaling mithril; anyone who can defeat one deserves adamantite rank.
- Divine beasts: the god-hunting wolf Fenrir (level 78, a jet-black giant wolf) and the sun iguana (Itzamna) Quadracile are Aura's beasts.
- Hamsuke: a giant Djungarian hamster called the "Wise King of the Forest", estimated in the level 30s, a monster absent from YGGDRASIL.
- A mammoth-type beast of about level 40: commonly used for transport in YGGDRASIL, resistant to cold and fire, able to keep going without eating for long periods (Vol. 11).
- Horses are the usual mounts in surrounding nations; special mounts include giant lizards, giant ants, and giant mantises (The Ghost Ship of the Katze Plains (Part 1)-089)
- Aura's beasts (14-495–496): Rainbow Tyrant (level 71, tyrannosaur-like, with a "Terrifying Roar"), Spirit Hunting Party Hound (level 77), Kirin and Amphisbaena (level 76 each), Stone King Wing Lizard (level 74), Avarice Frog (level 58)
- The Thousand-Spear Thorn Rabbit (level 67, a white long-haired rabbit over 2 m whose fur turns into needles in combat) was recommended by Aura and Mare as a candidate beast for Carne Village's defense (8-282)
- The Web novel says the Gigant Basilisk "can only be beaten by orichalcum-rank adventurers"; sources consider this the author misusing the light novel's rank names in the Web novel
Notes
What adventurers most dream of riding are flying beasts such as griffins, hippogriffs, and wyverns.
