Zern Prince Rescue Mission

ゼルンの王子救出作戦 · World & History · Battles & Events

Vol. 13, early Year 3 after the transfer: after the Sorcerer King's "defeat", Neia and Shizu infiltrated Kalinsha at the request of the demi-human Zern to rescue their imprisoned prince Beebeezee; the Zern then switched sides and helped the liberation army retake Kalinsha.

Three days after the Sorcerer King's defeat, a Zern envoy came to the liberation army offering to betray Jaldabaoth in exchange for rescuing their prince.
Meanwhile Shizu appeared with the cover story that "the Sorcerer King seized control of her from Jaldabaoth during the battle" and joined the liberation army; she and Neia formed the prince-rescue team, set out two days later, and reached Kalinsha about five days after that, at night.
The two rescued the Zern prince Beebeezee, imprisoned in a spire in Kalinsha, defeating a guarding water-spirit ogre (Va Un) along the way.
While escaping they fought and destroyed the "Circlet Demon", one of Jaldabaoth's lieutenants who happened to teleport to Kalinsha, recovering the "Queen Mother" it used as equipment and the head of Kelart Custodio, head of the priesthood.
With the Circlet Demon dead, the liberation army, aided by Zern insiders, retook Kalinsha with surprising ease; Neia afterward founded a group supporting the Sorcerer King.
Other sources state: the two hid in wooden barrels full of fresh meat carried into the city by the Zern, sprinkled with odorless perfume to mask their scent (unverified). After the war the prince and his men solemnly ate the body of the Queen Mother (the prince's first love) as a mark of mourning.

Notes

Because magic that only affects demi-humans works on the Zern, even they believe they are demi-humans, but they are actually heteromorphs; their royals look like purple-glowing maggots about 90 cm long, very different from ordinary Zern.
