Neia Baraja

Squire-in-training of the Paladin Order → evangelist of faith in the Sorcerer King, "the Faceless" · Roble Holy Kingdom · Human · Lv 11 (after resurrection: 11 job levels, humans have no racial levels; Vol. 13 character profile)
Personality
Having inherited her father's fearsome glare, she had few friends from childhood and grew used to doing everything alone, but she is earnest and responsible, able to bear her superior's harassment for the sake of the people. Spending time with Ainz, she came to deeply revere his power and mercy, became convinced that "justice needs power", and feels disgust and anger toward those who belittle the Sorcerer King.
Abilities
- Inherited her father Pabel's keen senses and talent for archery; her archery far surpasses her swordsmanship (she has almost no talent with the sword)
- Ainz lent her many magic items, including the bow "Ultimate Shooting Star Super" (Ainz said it was made with ancient rune techniques and counted it as YGGDRASIL equipment; one account says it is actually a YGGDRASIL weapon with merely rune decoration, unverified) and the Grand King Buser's armour "Turtle Shell"; she returned them after the war (in the anime they were simply given to her)
- After her resurrection she gained new classes such as Holy Archer, allowing her to imbue ranged attacks with holy power (Vol. 13)
- Unknowingly has a special ability to guide and even brainwash others' thinking, which for now works only on those with wounded hearts (Vol. 13 character profile)
History
- After Jaldabaoth invades the Holy Kingdom, she accompanies Remedios's Liberation Army delegation as a scout to seek aid from the Kingdom and the Sorcerer Kingdom (Vol. 12)
- Assigned as the Sorcerer King's attendant, she is gradually won over by his thinking while travelling with Ainz, and borrows the bow "Ultimate Shooting Star Super" (Vol. 12)
- In the defence of the small city of Loyts she shoots dead a demi-human using human children as shields, and finally charges out to repay Ainz's kindness and dies in battle (Vol. 12)
- Saved by Ainz's True Resurrection, she becomes convinced that "the Sorcerer King is justice"; with CZ she infiltrates Kalinsha to rescue the Zern prince, and witnesses Ainz defeat Jaldabaoth (Vol. 13)
- She founds a support group to search for the Sorcerer King; after Ainz returns home she dons a mask as "the Faceless", preaching that "the weak who do not strive to become strong are evil", her influence spreading throughout the northern Holy Kingdom (Vols. 13-14)
- In Vol. 14, when the Sorcerer Kingdom declares war on the Kingdom, her group's seal is stamped beside the Holy Kingdom's national seal on the alliance document; in a side story the author published on Hameln, the Sorcerer Kingdom prepares a welcoming ceremony for her visit (non-canon)
Trivia
In his Vol. 13 notes the author said "Gondo's and Neia's sexes should have been swapped"; another source says she was originally conceived as male but changed to female because there were too many male supporting characters interacting with Ainz (unverified).
