Brain Unglaus

ブレイン・アングラウス

"Seeker of the Martial Way", genius swordsman, later a soldier under Renner · Re-Estize Kingdom · Human · Lv Unknown (in Vol. 14 Cocytus estimated his final strike at around level 40)

Personality

He was once someone who would throw away everything to pursue the pinnacle of the sword - arrogant, conceited and unscrupulous. After being utterly crushed by Shalltear he lost the will to live for a time, but under the influence of Sebas and Climb he understood the meaning of fighting for others, and became a man who values loyalty and cherishes his comrades.

Abilities

His innate talent, "increased concentration capacity", lets him carry more martial arts at once
Original martial arts Field, Instant Flash and Divine Flash; the compound martial art Secret Sword Tiger Whistle; the strongest secret sword Nail Clipper and True Nail Clipper
In Vol. 14, with the help of Gazef's master Vesture, he learned Sixfold Light Slash (though not the ultimate martial art), stepped into the Realm of Heroes and surpassed Gazef
Uses a katana (a "divine katana", unverified) and wears the eye necklace and a magic-infused ring

History

Originally a farmer, he was invincible thanks to his talent with the sword until he lost to Gazef in the royal tournament, then joined the "Death-Spreading Sword Band" to hone his skills for revenge (background)
Shalltear attacks the band's hideout; giving it everything, he cannot even scratch her nail, and flees in tears (Vol. 3)
Drifting to the Royal Capital, he is taken in by Gazef, regains his footing after meeting Sebas and Climb, and raids the Eight Fingers' brothel with them (Vol. 5); during the unrest in the capital he knocks off Shalltear's little-finger nail with Nail Clipper, and is afterwards hired by Renner as a soldier (mentioned in Vol. 9)
Witnesses Gazef's death on the Katze Plains, and afterwards takes in talented orphans in the Royal Capital to teach them swordsmanship (Vols. 9-10, 14)
When the Royal Capital is besieged he bids farewell to Blue Roses, Renner and Climb, hands over Razor Edge (unverified) and sets out alone to challenge the Sorcerer King; on the way he faces Cocytus, meets him with a True Nail Clipper that surpasses his limits, and dies, his katana taken by his opponent; his body is preserved in ice by the Frost Virgins (unverified) (Vol. 14)

Trivia

His blue hair is dyed; the author once said on Twitter that he was originally meant to be gay.
