Hamsuke

"Wise King of the Forest" / Momon's (Ainz's) mount and pet · Other Factions · Heteromorphic (species unknown; looks like a giant Djungarian hamster) · Lv A little over 30 (estimated from the Vol. 2 character profile; later acquired a warrior class, so her level should have risen)
Personality
Simple, straightforward, and grateful, utterly loyal to her "liege" Ainz, and speaks in an archaic samurai-style manner ("de gozaru"). She has a warrior's temperament, loves battle and will praise an enemy's strengths, but an enemy is an enemy and she shows no mercy; she gets bashful when her head is patted, and her wish is to find her own kind and have offspring.
Abilities
- Freely controls a snake tail over 20 m long; by raising its scales she can add slashing damage to her blows
- Her fur is normally soft but hardens when struck or ready for battle, deflecting to some degree even a sword made by Ainz unless hit directly
- About 8 markings on her body; the number of markings corresponds to the spells she can use, such as <Charm Species> (used to catch animals in the manga) and <Blindness>; she herself has zero ability as a magic caster, so opponents resist easily
- Learned the martial art <Slash> under lizardman instruction, and later could wear prototype armor made in Nazarick
- Keeps the Orb of Death in her cheek pouch and wears an item lent by Ainz that nullifies mind control
History
- Ruled the southern Great Forest of Tob for about 200 years; she spared an intruding warrior because he called her "Wise King of the Forest", and the title spread from there. Her presence kept monsters away from the Carne Village area (Vols. 2, 8, 10)
- Vol. 2: Lured out by Aura and defeated by Momon; her words "I've always been alone and want to meet my kin" move Ainz, and she is named "Hamsuke" and becomes his mount
- Vol. 7: Learns martial arts (<Slash>) in a growth experiment and, as a martial arts test opponent, kills Erya Uzruth of the worker team "Tenmu" in one blow; thanks to her warrior temperament, Erya's elf slaves survive
- Vol. 10: After the founding of the Sorcerer Kingdom she lives in a stable in E-Rantel, eating and sleeping all day with a Death Knight, and is scolded by Ainz, but gets his promise to help find her kin
- Bonus novel The Ghost Ship of the Katze Plains: Accompanies the Darkness team to investigate the Katze Plains and easily defeats a Skeletal Dragon
Trivia
The author once had a scrapped setting in which Hamsuke's parents were giant creatures over a kilometer long living in the Great Rift of the dwarf kingdom.
