Job Class

YGGDRASIL has over 2,000 base and advanced classes combined, and characters must stack multiple classes to reach level 100.
- Class level caps are 15, 10 or 5 depending on the class
- Many advanced classes have prerequisites: prerequisite classes, events, items, or PKing a certain number of heteromorphs, etc.
- Each class has its own "spell list"; when a desired spell is not on the list, players may even die deliberately to lose levels and retake classes
- In the New World, locals must accumulate experience related to a class to advance in it (e.g. Hamsuke receiving warrior training, Arche gaining the Wizard (Academy) class from attending the magic academy)
- Classes can be gained even against one's will: Tsuare gained the "Slave" class through her circumstances, and Neia the "Evangelist" class
- Classes like Ninja and Cursed Knight that require high levels in YGGDRASIL were learned by locals at low levels, showing that acquisition rules differ in the New World
- Among top players, warrior-class strength is affected by real-world athleticism, while magic classes depend on memory — one must memorize the layout of circular shortcut commands (4 layers × 12 per tier, 480 slots in all)
- Mining and investigation spells also give tiny amounts of experience, and some classes can only be taken by characters who have accumulated such experience; classes with harder requirements have higher stat growth, and some are restricted to the human species (Web novel)
Notes
Japanese sources only say "base classes," "advanced classes" and level caps of 15/10/5, without mapping the three caps one-to-one onto class tiers; the "base 15 / advanced 10 / rare 5" mapping comes from English sources.
