Spell types
Besides schools, spells are also classified by how they are cast, each type with its own rules.
- Touch spells: no range, requiring contact with the target; because they are inconvenient, their effects are about one tier stronger than others of the same tier, and using them well requires training in a warrior class as well
- Instant-death (one-hit-kill) spells: heavily affected by resistance bonuses from stats, passive skills, items and level differences, and easily resisted between those of similar level
- Summoning spells: by YGGDRASIL convention summons are never stronger than the caster; casting the same summoning spell again sends the previous summons back
- Ainz's 〈Create Undead〉 skill does not send back previous summons, so he can summon repeatedly
- Ray/projectile spells: require shooting skill; Ainz has given up on this type entirely
- Evileye says casting requires concentration and is hard to do while running; most who can use 〈Fly〉 have practiced casting while flying
- More on summoning: in the New World one summoning spell usually summons one creature, and casting another summoning spell sends the previous one back; high-tier summoning spells can summon multiple low-tier creatures; Evileye says summoning specialists can summon several kinds at once (per Neia's and Evileye's accounts)
- In the side story, Dark Young summoned by super-tier magic can coexist with previously summoned demons (side story); summoned demons know about other demons, but low-tier demons mostly don't know higher ones
