First Battle of Carne Village

カルネ村襲撃 · World & History · Battles & Events

Vol. 1, Year 1 after the transfer (days 1–4): Slane Theocracy troops disguised as Imperial knights attack Carne Village on the Kingdom's border; Momonga (Ainz) sees it in the Mirror of Remote Viewing, saves the village, and calls himself "Ainz Ooal Gown" for the first time.

The attackers were Slane Theocracy troops disguised as Baharuth Imperial knights, aiming to lure Warrior-Captain Gazef out of E-Rantel so the Sunlight Scripture could hunt him down
Carne Village is a frontier settlement of about 120 people in 25 households; being near the "Wise King of the Forest"'s territory, it had never been attacked by monsters and lacked even a fence
Momonga at first saw no benefit in saving the village, but seeing Sebas standing by reminded him of Touch Me's motto, "helping someone in trouble is only natural"; he rushed there by teleportation ([Gate], unverified) and saved the sisters Enri and Nemu
Momonga used [Create Middle Undead] to turn a knight's corpse into a Death Knight; the disguised unit's captain Belius begged the Death Knight for his life and was brutally killed, and Londes Di Clamp, who took over and tried to retreat, was also killed by it
When Enri asked his name after he saved the sisters, he gave not the guild master's name "Momonga" but "Ainz Ooal Gown"; after repelling the knights he asked the village chief for basic information about the new world
Gazef then arrived with his warrior troop, Ainz learned the attack was a Slane Theocracy plot, and this led directly into the "Sunlight Scripture Confrontation"
About half the villagers died in this attack (recalled in Vol. 8)

Notes

Sources note that Momonga felt no emotion at all while killing the knights, and so realized that even his heart was no longer human.
