Hundred-Year Backlash

YGGDRASIL players descend on the New World about once every 100 years and leave legends and myths through overwhelming power; locals call this the "backlash" (揺り返し).
- Known or suspected descents: the Six Great Gods 600 years ago, the Eight Greed Kings 500 years ago (with their guild base), the player "completely killed" by the Deep Darkness Dragon Lord 300 years ago, the Leader of the Thirteen Heroes and companions 200 years ago, the Mouth-Only Sage, and now Ainz and Nazarick
- Whether players descended 400 and 100 years ago is unknown
- Sometimes several descend together, and sometimes they are transported along with a guild base
- Vol. 7 interlude: The Platinum Dragon Lord Tsa tells the visiting Rigrit that while searching for powerful items he fought a mysterious vampire (Shalltear), judges that the once-a-century "backlash" may have happened again, and asks her to gather information on items rivaling guild weapons or special YGGDRASIL items
- The Slane Theocracy calls awakened descendants of the Six Great Gods "God-kin"; awakened descendants of other players have a different name (not revealed)
- The Platinum Dragon Lord calls players' power "power that pollutes the world," and is deeply worried by its reappearance after a hundred years
- The soundtrack includes a track of the same name, "Hyakunen no Yurikaeshi"; fan works often write it as 百年の揺り戻し
- Compiled from the Japanese sources' "transfer theory": known players transfer every hundred years, in groups or alone, with or without a guild base; there is so far no case of NPCs transferring alone; the "completely killed" one of 300 years ago and the Mouth-Only Sage may have transferred alone or without a base
Notes
In the "Sugar and spice and all that's nice" route the author posted on Twitter to celebrate the release of Blu-ray Vol. 1, Momonga leaves Nazarick before shutdown to light fireworks set up in the surface swamp, and ends up transported to a different era from Nazarick; readers infer from this that players who leave their guild base may be sent to other eras (only an inference).
