YGGDRASIL

A DMMO-RPG released by a Japanese company in 2126 and shut down in 2138; in Japan it was practically synonymous with the DMMO-RPG genre, and it is where Ainz and Nazarick come from.
- Ran for 12 years, 2126–2138; based on Norse mythology, with monsters drawn from myths and angels and demons from religions (mostly Christianity)
- About 700 races across the human, demi-human and heteromorphic species, over 2,000 base and advanced classes, and over 6,000 spells, making it nearly impossible to build identical characters
- The setting is the Nine Worlds formed from the nine leaves remaining on the World Tree: Asgard, Alfheim, Vanaheim, Nidavellir, Midgard, Jotunheim, Niflheim, Helheim and Muspelheim; each world is about two or three Tokyos in size
- Backstory: a giant monster devouring the World Tree's leaves made them fall one after another, and players travel unknown worlds to protect their own; the eaten or fallen leaves are said to have become World Items
- The developers' motto was "enjoy the unknown," and they provided almost no information, earning curses from players like "the devs are insane" and "garbage management"; by the time the guild was founded, only about 30% of the Nine Worlds was estimated to have been explored
- Niflheim, Helheim and Muspelheim favor heteromorphs; classes and enemies whose names bear "World" are set exceptionally strong
- The huge update "Fall of the Valkyries" added magic guns, automatons and the gunner class, and changed the gold coin design
- Basically free to play (Web novel: 1,500 yen per month); paid items are merely helpers that "scratch an itch"; second characters are not allowed
- Players who pursue strength are called "min-maxers" (ガチ勢), while those who value role-play and fun builds are called "dream builders"
- Parties: 6 per party, up to 5 parties (30 people); two guilds cooperating can form a "legion" of 6 parties of 6; party roles are magic damage, physical damage, scout, tank, healer and other (wild)
- At the start each player receives a book-type item, the "Encyclopedia," which automatically records images of monsters encountered, though abilities must be written in by the player
- Adult (18+) acts are strictly forbidden, and violators have their names made public and are banned; facial expressions are fixed, and emotion icons are used instead
Notes
The claim that only about 30% of the Nine Worlds had been explored comes from information at the time the guild Ainz Ooal Gown was founded.
