Cocytus
Guardian of the 5th Floor, head of the Sorcerer Kingdom's military affairs · Great Tomb of Nazarick · Heteromorphic · Insect (Vermin Lord) · Total Lv100
Personality
A four-armed warrior with an ice-blue exoskeleton, upright in character, who values honour and bushido and speaks in a stiff, katakana-like cadence. The most straightforward of the Guardians, he respects brave enemies; privately he often fantasises about serving as bodyguard to Ainz's heir, the "young master", and being called "Grandpa".
Abilities
- His armed attack power with four weapon-wielding arms is the highest in Nazarick (third in the Guardians' ranking, "strongest in weapon combat"), and he can use 21 kinds of weapons
- The Divine-class tachi God Slaying Emperor Blade (originally the weapon of his creator Warrior Takemikazuchi), the silver halberd Decapitation Fang, and more
- Cold-type skills such as Frost Aura, Frost Breath and Smite Frostburn, plus complete cold immunity
- Skills such as Acalanatha Strike and Kurikara Sword; because his exoskeleton is his armour he cannot equip armour, so his defence is relatively weak in fights against equal-level opponents
History
- Created by Warrior Takemikazuchi, he guards the glacial 5th Floor (Vol. 1)
- Ordered to lead an army of low-tier undead against the Lizardmen, he is defeated, and through this learns to discern his master's true intentions, raising his first objection: "rule them rather than exterminate them" (Vol. 4)
- In the second attack he faces Zaryusu and the other Lizardman champions alone, gives them the chance to choose death anew, and defeats them all (Vol. 4)
- Ordered to rule the Lizardmen without relying on terror; later also subjugates the Toadmen on the north side of the lake (Vol. 4 onward)
- While interrogating Sebas at Sebas's mansion in the Royal Capital, he blocks the blow Sebas was ordered to strike to kill Tuare (Vol. 6)
- After the Sorcerer Kingdom is founded he manages and trains its army (Vol. 9 onward); in the battle for the Royal Capital in Vol. 14 he cuts down Brain with a single stroke
Trivia
Ainz has asked him for instruction in a warrior's body mechanics and martial arts (around Vol. 13 and in Vols. 15-16) (unverified); apart from kanji, his lines are written entirely in katakana, because his voice is "blocks of sound forced into a human voice".
