Gargantua

Guardian of the 4th Floor (nominal), strategic-class siege golem · Nazarick: Area Guardians & Other NPCs · Construct (golem) · Lv Unknown
Personality
As a golem it has no self-awareness or personality and merely carries out the orders of whoever activates it. Activation itself also takes considerable time (unverified).
Abilities
- A stone colossus over 30 m tall, with a red light like a heartbeat glowing through the rock of its chest
- In raw combat power alone it is stronger than Shalltear
- Under the game's rules it can only be used for sieges, not for defending a base
- According to the Web novel, once activated it is teleported outside the base
History
- Originally a siege golem provided by the game's rules; the guild didn't know where to put it, so they sank it in the underground lake of the 4th Floor and gave it the title of "Floor Guardian" for good measure
- Vol. 3: Mentioned during Shalltear's rebellion: in terms of strength alone, it surpasses Shalltear, the strongest Guardian (Vol. 3 p. 178)
- Vol. 4: Activated by Albedo, it hurls boulders at the lizardmen's lakeside to build a stage for Ainz's show of force, and has not appeared since
- Web novel: Remains on standby throughout; the author said its turn would come only at the end (Web novel setting)
Trivia
The name presumably comes from Rabelais's Gargantua and Pantagruel (unverified); "Gargantua" is a proper name the guild gave it, and its official category is merely "strategic-class siege golem". When the manga was serialized in the magazine it was once drawn as three units, corrected in the collected volume.
