Hilma Cygnaeus
Head of the Eight Fingers' narcotics division; later the de facto manager of the Eight Fingers under Nazarick's control · Eight Fingers · Human · Lv Unknown
Personality
A former high-class courtesan whose creed is "those who don't move when they should get eaten"; shrewd, tough, and unflappable, she has made her way through life on instinct. After Nazarick's "baptism" broke her completely and remade her, she became humble and considerate, a comrade in life and death with the other division heads, and sincerely reveres the Sorcerer King.
Abilities
- Can read people's minds from the rise and fall of their voice, their expressions, and small habits, especially men; she saw at a glance that Mare is a boy
- Built enormous underground political power by hosting banquets at her mansion to win over noble heirs who had not yet inherited, then controlling them once they took power
- The "viper tattoo" on her right arm can materialize as a viper to attack, and she carries a pipe that emits purple poisonous smoke
- Made huge profits from the narcotic "Black Powder" (Lyra powder), which even flowed into the Empire (unverified)
History
- Rose from high-class courtesan to head of the Eight Fingers' narcotics division (background)
- Refuses Zero's offer of guards at the division heads' meeting (Vol. 5); during the turmoil in the Royal Capital her mansion is attacked by Mare, who crushes her viper tattoo bare-handed, and she is taken to Nazarick for Kyouhukou's "baptism", after which she gives in and reveals where the Eight Fingers leaders meet (unverified) (Vol. 6)
- The baptism leaves her unable to swallow solid food and morbidly thin (Vol. 10 p. 197); on Albedo's orders she props up the foolish noble Philip to form a new faction (Vol. 10)
- Driven to stomach pains by Philip's stupidity, she breaks down crying in front of her colleagues and begs to be replaced (Vol. 13)
- After Philip seizes Sorcerer Kingdom food wagons, she is brought before Ainz to answer for it; Ainz pardons her on the grounds that "a subordinate's error is the superior's responsibility, and she did her best", merely ordering her to submit measures to prevent a recurrence, and from then on she regards the Sorcerer King as a merciful, wise ruler; before the Kingdom falls she leads about a thousand associates to safety in a Sorcerer Kingdom village (Vol. 14)
Trivia
She ranked 89th in the popularity poll; anime season 4 depicted her emaciation more mildly and also cut Cocco Doll's line that she was "way too thin".
