Difficulty
The New World's measure of a monster's or person's strength; readers generally believe "Difficulty ≈ level × 3."
- In the Arcadia version's afterword the author said "the difference between Difficulty 10 and level 10 is like that between a regular soldier's Zaku and Char's Zaku," from which readers derived "level × 3 ≈ Difficulty"
- This is only a reader inference, not an official formula; locals have no concept of levels, and Difficulty is only a rough guide, easily affected by the assessor's subjectivity, whether the opponent is serious, equipment and so on
- Difficulty examples in the books: an adamantite-rank adventurer team can handle about Difficulty 90; the limit humans can generally defeat is around Difficulty 100
- A Death Knight is estimated at Difficulty 100+, Evileye "far beyond 150," Jaldabaoth an estimated 200+, and the Evil Deities defeated by the Thirteen Heroes under 200
- Correspondence with adventurer ranks: an orichalcum-rank adventurer team can fight opponents of around Difficulty 80 on even terms (6-308); the Web novel directly classifies adventurers by Difficulty as Novice, E, F, D, C, B, A, A+, A++
- Flying enemies are troublesome: enemies that hover or move freely up and down raise the subjugation difficulty by at least one grade
- Other Difficulty examples: hellhound about 15, grave-digging corpse about 15 (The Ghost Ship of the Katze Plains), wolf about 10 (Web), giant serpent monster 83 (Web), Beastman about 30 (taking a human as 3, 9-234)
