New World

The world of sword and sorcery to which Nazarick was transported. It has no official name in the original work; readers commonly call it "the local world," "the other world" or "the New World." Its inhabitants, remarkably, use the same races, magic and classes as YGGDRASIL.
- There are a sun, moon and stars and four distinct seasons; a day is about 24 hours and a year about 12 months × 30 days (unverified); seawater is not salty; minerals that do not exist in reality, such as mythril and adamantite, are mined
- Spoken language is automatically translated by an unknown system (mouth movements do not match the sounds), but writing must be learned; translation of songs is fuzzy, and whether one can understand songs is considered a mark of education among the upper classes
- Inhabitants experience a rise in ability under extreme conditions (leveling up); players are basically level 100, while locals who reach around level 30 are hailed as heroes
- Magic is divided into "Wild Magic," usable only by true Dragon Lords, and "tier magic," said to have been brought by the Eight Greed Kings; locals have also developed original magic such as the 0th tier
- Races are divided into Humanoid races (humans, elves, dwarves, etc.), demi-humans (goblins, lizardmen, etc.) and Heteromorphic races (undead, dragons, slimes, etc.)
- The original work has no official setting called "planes," and the relationship between the New World and YGGDRASIL's Nine Worlds has not been revealed
- Whether the universe or the earth is spherical has not been revealed; no creator god appears, and the vast power gap leads some to regard players as gods
- Air resistance in the New World seems to be very low, so a falling body might accelerate without limit (not tested by Ainz); there are the cardinal directions
- Currency consists only of coins such as gold, silver and copper; there is no paper money (paper itself is expensive); Kingdom and Imperial gold coins are of equal value; the side story mentions melting YGGDRASIL gold coins into a common trade currency (it may simply refer to Satoru habitually using his own YGGDRASIL gold coins)
- YGGDRASIL players are transported to somewhere in this world about every 100 years; the cause, the numbers and what decides where they appear are all unknown; in the side story a Dragon Lord called Suzuki Satoru "the Dragon Emperor's filth," and readers speculate the Dragon Emperor is connected to the transfers
- The side story The Vampire Princess of the Lost Country (set in the central continent) features many beings able to use the 6th tier, and even some who have reached the 8th
Notes
Sources point out that the other world's setting is almost the same in the Web novel and the light novel; the light novel only adds characters, strengthens monsters and slightly changes the history.
