Six Great Gods
Six powerful beings who descended 600 years ago saved humanity from the brink of extinction and are worshipped by the Slane Theocracy as the Six Great Gods; they are all but certainly YGGDRASIL players (not stated outright).
- The six gods are Earth (brown), Water (blue), Fire (red), Wind (green), Light (white) and Darkness (black); the Wind God's name is "Kikotenshi Nekonyan," the God of Darkness is Surshana, God of Death (Vol. 10), and the God of Light is named "Alah Alaf" in the Web novel (where he is called the God of Life); the others' names have not been revealed
- They are said to have descended leading subordinate gods, and laid down laws and other national foundations for the later Slane Theocracy
- Unlike the Eight Greed Kings, who went to war with the Dragon Lords, the Six Great Gods once made a deal with the Platinum Dragon Lord
- The other five gods died one after another, and the last remaining, Surshana, God of Death, was killed by the Eight Greed Kings (the Theocracy's oral tradition says "banished by those who committed a great sin"); Surshana is thought to have been mightier than the other five, the god who "grants the living eternal rest and everlasting despair"
- Surshana resembles Ainz in appearance; his "first attendant" is said to remain in the Theocracy still
- The legacy of the Six Great Gods (equipment and items, including World Items) is kept by the Slane Theocracy, and awakened descendants of their bloodline are called "God-kin"
- Web novel: the Evil Deities are subordinate gods who fell after the Six Great Gods died; the books have no explicit statement yet, but none of Surshana's subordinate gods became Evil Deities
- Symbolic colors: Earth brown, Water blue, Fire red, Wind green, Light white, Darkness black; anime season 4 episode 3 shows designs presumed to be the Six Great Gods' emblems (matching each cardinal's color and pendant)
- The Four Great Gods faith (neighboring nations) holds that the four gods of earth, water, fire and wind created the world; the Theocracy holds that light and darkness came first and gave birth to the Four Great Gods, hence adding the gods of light (life) and darkness (death), which is doctrinally at odds with the Four Great Gods faith (Web novel)
- Subordinate gods: the Earth God's subordinate, the "God of Theft" (with eight fingers, the origin of the name Eight Fingers), and his six-armed brother god; the Four Great Gods' subordinate gods also include the "Buddha God" (Vol. 10)
- Legacy: Downfall of Castle and Country; the equipment of five of the gods is guarded by the Extra Seat in the Theocracy's sanctuary (five gods' worth when she is present, four when absent); Shalltear judged the Black Scripture's god-relic arms to be Legendary-class or higher
- The Six Great Gods set the Theocracy's age of majority at 20 and introduced the "Rubik's Cube" toy (Vol. 4); middle names in Theocracy personal names are baptismal names, possibly taken from the Six Great Gods or subordinate gods
Notes
The reading of 神人 (God-kin) long remained unknown until light novel Vol. 15 and the manga gave it as "shinjin," while the Audible audiobook reads it "jinnin."
