Adventurer's Guild

An "anti-monster mercenary" organization secretly founded by the Slane Theocracy about 200 years ago, independent of nations, with the aim of protecting humanity from external threats; adventurers are ranked by eight grades of metal plates.
- Plates from highest to lowest: adamantite > orichalcum > mythril > platinum > gold > silver > iron > copper; promotion requires passing an exam, with achievements also considered
- Adamantite rank denotes heroes on the level of "humanity's guardians," though strength varies; platinum rank can use 3rd-tier magic, and platinum and above make up about 20% of a nation's adventurers
- Rules: do not intervene in conflicts between humans or in state affairs, do not take orders from the state (except retirees), take only requests matching one's rank, do not heal others for free, and do not accept criminal or ecologically destructive requests
- On receiving a request the guild first sends an investigation team to verify it and set its rank; there is no unified headquarters, and local guild masters are in charge
- In militarily strong nations such as the Theocracy and Empire, adventurers have lower status; the Theocracy has no Adventurer's Guild; the Kingdom has about 3,000 adventurers
- The Sorcerer Kingdom nationalized the Adventurer's Guild and refocused it on exploring the unknown
- Request process: the client applies → the guild sends an investigation team to verify and set the rank → adventurers of the corresponding rank take it; urgent requests are rated high and given to high-ranking adventurers (Vol. 7)
- Web novel: 20% of the reward goes to investigation costs, and failure requires refunding 20% to the client (15% if prepaid) as a penalty; rule-breakers are pressured and frozen out of work, and the worst are rumored to be targeted by assassination squads the guild keeps
- The system of paying bounties for monsters originated about five years ago with Princess Renner's policy and is now common to all nations; bringing back a specific part of the monster (usually the ears for goblins) earns the bounty
- Losing one's plate requires paying a fine according to its value; adamantite-rankers are rare, so they can get away with being rather self-indulgent
- Web novel: A-rank makes up about 2% of a nation's adventurers (about 40 in the Kingdom); A+ teams number 2 in the Kingdom, 2 in the Empire, 4 in the Council State and 1 in Roble; the Council State's adventurers are mainly demi-humans
Notes
Adventurer ranks in the Web novel are entirely different: novice, E, F, D, C, B, A, A+, A++, classified by "Difficulty."
