Dark Elf

A close relative of elves with brown skin and fuller figures than elves, able to see in darkness; Nazarick's Aura and Mare belong to this race.
- Their skin is a "dusky" brown, not black or blue.
- Aura and Mare have darkvision, presumed to be a racial trait.
- They once ruled the Great Forest of Tob but left after the demonic tree Zy'tl Q'ae appeared; they now live deep in the great southern forest where no human has set foot, and have no contact with humans.
- In Vols. 15–16, Ainz takes the twins to a dark elf village in the Great Forest of Evasha (the Great Sea of Trees).
- The dark elves and the mushroom-ant people of the Great Sea of Trees have no dealings; when they meet they silently keep their distance.
- Vol. 16: Mango Gilena, head apothecary of the dark elf village in the Great Sea of Trees, taught Ainz how to make a secret medicine from an extremely rare herb; Ainz felt its effect was weak but might have synergy combined with a certain method (16-104, 16-128)
- Magical beasts of the Great Sea of Trees: a giant elk (so vital that Aura's dark elf longbow could not kill it in one shot), a giant hypnotic snake (a threat to the dark elves; repelling it earned Ainz respect in the village), and a howling bird that mimics the roars of several monsters (15-237, 15-306, 16-119)
Notes
In the Web novel dark elves lived in caves or underground; this was heavily revised for the light novels.
