In the winter of January–February of the second year after the transfer, Ainz joined the annual war on the Katze Plains at the Empire's invitation, massacred about 180,000 Kingdom soldiers with super-tier magic, took E-Rantel, and founded the Sorcerer Kingdom of Ainz Ooal Gown.

Cause: the Empire declared it recognized Nazarick under Ainz as a nation and had allied with it, demanding that the Kingdom "return" the area around E-Rantel or else it would help the Sorcerer King reclaim it
Forces: the Kingdom army fielded 245,000 (actually deployed), the Empire six legions of 60,000 (previously at most four), and the Sorcerer Kingdom only about 500 undead riding Soul Eaters (including Ainz and others)
Ainz cast the super-tier spell 〈Iä Shub-Niggurath〉 (黒き豊穣への貢), instantly killing 70,000 on the Kingdom's left wing, and the five Dark Young it summoned went on trampling the Kingdom army

Although the Slane Theocracy had claimed E-Rantel as its own territory in past years, this time it wrote to the Kingdom that "our nation has no record of this; if true, we acknowledge the Sorcerer King's legitimate claim to E-Rantel" (9-165)
Kingdom deployment: 105,000 of the royal faction in the center and 70,000 of the noble faction on each wing; Marquis Raeven was supreme commander, and Marquis Boullope led the left wing, contributing over 50,000 troops; the Imperial army was commanded by Carvain, general of the 2nd Army (9-157–176)
Boris and four other former orichalcum-rank adventurers under Marquis Raeven died confronting the Dark Young to cover his retreat, and his commoner-born strategist also died (10-157); on the Imperial side thousands developed PTSD (10-263)
